DIY: Awesome Candle Crate!

I used to hate going into any "dollar store" - I thought all they had was a bunch of junk. But I started going in the store with a different frame of mind - a "creative" mind, if you will. I look at things in a different way now. I look beyond the item's current appearance and imagine what it could look like if I use my creative chops! I also found out that you can get lots of good deals if you look around. Who knew you could get mylar helium balloons for $1? Now I get excited to go in the dollar store - never know what I might find!  Now, back to the topic at hand...

Here is one of my dollar store DIY projects. I am in love with this candle "crate" and want to make several more. It was easy, fun, and best of all, CHEAP!

I bought 3 of these wooden box frames ($1 each) and 6 candles (3 for $1). These frames are meant to hang on the wall and hold miniatures. I found them in the crafts section of the Dollar Tree.

Spray paint 2 of the frames silver and 1 of them white. Remove the hooks off the backs.

Glue them together with the white frame in the middle. I used super glue because I had that on hand, but any strong glue or wood glue would work. If you use super glue, you have to get them in position fast because you won't be able to move them after about 2 seconds! Lay something heavy on top like bricks and let dry. 

When it is dry, spay with a coat of clear enamel, if desired.

Use your new candle crate for the 4th of July and when the holiday is over, you can replace these candles with any color you'd like. I think this will look great at Christmas time. I love my new candle crate and no one will know it all started at the dollar store.
