DIY: Recovering a Lampshade

I don't know about you, I find it very hard to find a lamp shade that I like. One that is the right shape or goes with my decor. And most of the lamp shades I see are BORING! Now you can add some pizazz to your lampshades with this tutorial from Emily Clark. I have some old lamp shades in the garage that I kept for who knows what reason - and now they can get a new life! I love Emily's new shade - it is stylish and fun. Go here to find out how she did it.

What does "Being Frugal" Mean?

Being frugal does not mean that you are poor or cheap. Being frugal means that you are smart with your money. You make smart purchases - wait for things to go on sale, use coupons and buy good quality items that will last. Even if I was a multi-millionaire, I would still use a 40% off coupon if I had one. Why wouldn't I? It's just a mindset you have - to make the wisest decisions with your money. Check out this article at DumbLittleMan about what frugality really means.

DIY: Cute Button Magnets

How many of you have a drawer/box/bowl of buttons that you have been saving for years? I know I do! Let's give those buttons a new life today and make these cute little magnets for the fridge. Just take a larger size button and glue a little magnet on the back (available at craft stores). And Waa Laa, you have an adorable new magnet! If you are throwing old clothes away that are not wearable, don't forget to take off the buttons first! You could do them in a variety of colors - striped or flowered buttons would be adorable. A bunch of them in a little tin would make a really cute gift.

"10 Things I Love About You" Printable

The best gifts are "personal" - ones with meaning. So, this printable from Crafty Carnival makes for a nice Valentine's Day gift. Print it off and have your kids color it in and write things about Grandma, Daddy or their sibling. Or even better, color it yourself and give it to your child. I think this would make them feel really special - better than a card you can just buy at the store. After Valentine's Day, you can frame it and hang it in their room so they can remember how special you think they are! Click here to print.

Making art for your home can be as easy as printing off a few letters. Look at this "LOVE" display - it is very simple but it makes a huge impact. You can spell out "EAT" in the kitchen or "DREAM" in the bedroom. Using this kind of creativity can add great style to a room without costing a lot of money. Making your own art gives you a chance to design it exactly the way you want - the right color, the right size, etc. It also gives you a great sense of pride knowing that you created it yourself.

DIY: Bleach Pen T-Shirts!

We all have more than our share of old t-shirts, am I right? Let's bring new life to them using this idea from Dora at ShowTellShare. She used a bleach pen (like Clorox) to draw simple designs on her shirts and they look fabulous!  I also found the same project at FamilyFun - they recommend drawing the design on first with chalk - then trace the chalk likes with the bleach pen. Because the bleach can spread, keep the design simple, and draw with lines and dots, rather than try to fill in large areas. This is a great project for both adults and kids!
Click HERE for all the details.
You also can see the kid version HERE.
