I have been trying to bake from scratch more lately - It not only saves money, it tastes so much better! When it comes to banana bread, I have tried many recipes over the years. After much tweaking, I finally came up with this recipe which always comes out perfect! My whole family loves it - even my hubby who swore he didn't like banana bread. The kids always help me make it and can't wait until it comes out of the oven. We made this today - I hope you'll try it!
Altered recipe from allrecipes.com:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 2 eggs
- 3 ripe bananas
- 1 tablespoon milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 325. Butter a 9x5x3 loaf pan.
Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs & vanilla - beat well.
In a separate bowl, mash the bananas with a fork. Stir in milk and cinnamon.
In a third bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Add banana mixture to the creamed mixture and stir until combined. Add flour mixture and stir just until flour disappears. Do not over mix.
Pour batter into prepared loaf pan and bake for about 1 hour and 10 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. I usually start checking it at 60 minutes. My oven is a little wacko. Let cool for 10 minutes and then remove bread from pan. Cool completely. Enjoy!

I love all the wall tiles you find these days. I saw these tiles at Ballard Design. They are very pretty, but instead of paying $100 - I decided to make my own!
It was super duper simple and inexpensive! This is the finished project. Let me show you how I did it!
I found these canvases at Dollar Tree. They aren't really my style - but for a dollar each, I knew they soon would be! If you can't find these exact canvases, look for small wood plaques - those would work for this project as well. They will probably have some less than attractive paintings on them, but just ignore that and envision what they will look like after using your creative touch!
I spray pained the edges brown. Black would work well also.
Then, I cut pieces of scrapbook paper the same size as the canvas. Using regular glue (because that's what I had), I glued the paper to the canvas and smoothed out the top using a credit card.
I sanded the edges to create a smoother surface and then finished each canvas off with a spray coat of crystal clear enamel.

These type of designs called "mandalas" are great for any age to color (I'm totally going to do it)! Mandalas are two or more shapes with a common center. My son will love these because he is always making some sort of abstract design. You can print each one out separately. Click HERE and have some fun!
A simple salt spray is the key to that beach hair that is so popular right now. Instead of paying $20 for a few ounces, there is an easy DIY solution you can whip up at home for only a few pennies.
All you need is about four cups of water, two tablespoons of sea salt, and a squirt bottle. Combine the water and salt, shake well, and pour into squirt bottle.
To style, start with dry hair. Section hair into four or five large sections and spray each section with the salt solution until damp. Twist section and pin securely. Let dry. When hair is dry, pull out pins and shake hair out. You can always touch up with a large barrel curling iron, but remember that the look is unkempt and wild.
I am really starting to love this vintage artwork. With a few color changes, it can really look quite contemporary. The Graphic's Fairy is a very cool website with a ton of free vintage art. I downloaded 2 black and white original images from the site, changed the color and ta da! I love how they tuned out! It only took a couple of minutes. Now all I have to do is print them out on nice quality paper. The pink bike is perfect for my daughter's room. Click HERE to see what you can find. If you are looking for a particular object or theme, there is a "search" box.
