Turn your Travel Mementos into Graphic Wall Art

Much to my husband's chagrin, I have kept every napkin, ticket, brochure, menu and hotel stationery from every trip that we have taken. I keep it all stashed away thinking I will do something great with it one day. Let's just say I have accumulated A LOT of souvenirs over the years and haven't done anything super fantastic with them yet. Well, now I know what to do - make these cool wall posters! has this excellent idea on how to turn your mementos into wall art. Instead of keeping your memories hidden in boxes or scrapbooks, make a graphic display that everyone can enjoy. When you enlarge event tickets or maps, etc, they become a design in themselves. Turn that Vase Upside Down!

Ready to add some new stylish candles holders to your decor? Ok, go get a bunch of those old vases that you have been keeping for years but don't know what to do with. How about the one that held the lovely roses that your husband bought for you on Valentine's Day in 1999? Now all you have to do is turn the vase up-side down, put a candle on top...and waa, laa - a new candle holder. Love it!

Here are some vases I had sitting in my very messy, unorganized closet. I took them outside so you wouldn't see my closet mess.

And, here are my new stlylish candles!

For this one, I just stacked 2 smaller bowls that I found in my stash!

Try to look at the stuff you have with a new fresh approach. Use a creative eye. What other uses can you find for the things you already have?

Pandora - Play the music that YOU like for free

I just recently discovered Pandora. I know most people probably know about it already...but I'm a little slow. lets you listen to the music that you love while you are online. You put in the name of an artist that you like, and they will play music that matches that style of music! It is so amazing...I just love it. Listening to the just the type of music I like is so nice. It's like having your own personal radio station. And no more buying CD's or paying to download songs. Now I spend the day listening to Rob Thomas, John Mayer and Michael Buble. On my nostalgic days, I can put in some of my old favorites like Rick Springfield! Yes, I'm old.
It's so much fun! Go check it out at

Frugal Tip: Use What You've Got - Headbands & Bows!

My daughter loves headbands and bows. But if I bought a headband or bow to match every outfit, that could get a little out of control!  So, I look through the ones that she has, and mix and match according to what color she needs for the day.

As you can see by the photo, we started with 2 headbands and a bow (the clip on kind). I put the green one on my daughter first. After that was all set, we added the pink one on top and centered it in the middle of the green headband. Then, I clipped the bow underneath the whole thing (this also keeps the headband in place all day!). By mixing and matching, we made a cute new headband - and it didn't cost us a penny. I didn't glue anything, so it all comes apart and the pieces can be mixed up again and again. Try it - you'll be surprised at the combinations you can come up with!

Cute Rolled Paper Flowers Made from Magazine Pages!

Can I just tell you - I am OBSESSED with making these flowers! I have read many tutorials - like this one at SplitCoastStampers on how to make these out of paper. So the other day, I was flipping through my piles (many, many piles) of magazines and catalogs, and I had an idea! Why not recycle these catalog pages and turn them into cute paper flowers? No need to buy any fancy paper, these turn out just as cute or even cuter! For a tutorial on how to roll the paper, click HERE. She actually uses "glue spots", I just used regular Elmer's glue. It's super easy!

I used a Pottery Barn catalog. I chose pages that had a lot of pink.

I LOVE how the text shows on this one!

I am officially in love with these. And now I have an excuse to keep all my old magazines! My hubby will be THRILLED.

There are endless possibilities with color, size, text, etc. You could even use old books with no pictures. Hmm..I think I'll have to try that next :)

More ideas to make the last day of school special!

Ok - I found some more ideas for the last day of school. I have to show you photos from other people because I haven't done the "last day of school celebration" before and have no past photos! But just wait...I'll have a ton of pictures to show after this school year is over!

I found these ideas at
• Decorate your child's lunch sack for the last day
• Make a "Last Day of School" t-shirt. Send them to school with a fabric marker and all their friends can sign the shirt! You can make these shirts by using t-shirt transfer paper that you can find at any craft store. You just run the paper through your own printer and then iron it onto the shirt. Simple! I will make mine in a couple of days and I'll post them for you all to see.
Are these fun ideas or what???

Amber Alert GPS info

I just read a report about the Amber Alert GPS and thought I would share. The thought of losing a child is terrifying. This is an excellent way to keep track of your children.

Info about the Amber Alert GPS:
Amber Alert GPS was a labor of love for Russ Thornton, who, in 2003 temporarily lost his child in an amusement park. He was determined that he nor one of his children would ever be in that situation again. After finding that existing child tracking devices did not meet his expectations, he went about creating his own. The new Amber Alert GPS 2G device is the result of that labor of love. Amber Alert GPS is now the premier child tracking technology in the world.

Free "Keep in Touch over the Summer" cards for your kids!

I have been sharing ideas on how to make the last day of school special and memorable for your kids. Here is a way for them to not lose contact with any of the friends they made over the last school year. I made these "keep in touch" cards (business card size)  that you can customize by writing your child's name and contact info. Make enough for the whole class and send them with your child on the last day of school. Your child (or teacher) can hand them out to everyone so no one feels left out. Print these on nice heavy paper and they will last all summer long! Click HERE to print.

Message on a Napkin - another great idea for the last day of school

You'll love looking at these napkins Cathe Holden makes for her kids' lunches. Even if you don't have time to do this on a regular basis - how about on special occasions like the last day of school!  I think the kids would love it. I have written a few notes over the last couple of years and stuck them in my kids' lunch bags. But this has inspired me to be more creative and to do it more often. I think it will be a memory the kids will always have and they can share the tradition with their children. Even if you aren't as artistic as Cathe, your kids won't care. It's the thought that counts! Click HERE to see the napkin awesomness.
